ASSIGNMENT (quality of a good teacher)

Topic : Qualities of a good teacher
TS : A good teacher must have some qualities
MP 1 : A teacher must have knowledge of subject
- It makes students are amazed by the teacher
- Give a clue to solve many questions
- The explanation is not out of the subject
MP 2 : A teacher must care about students
- Understand the students ability
- Don’t be partiality
- Don’t always give students a punishment
- Doesn’t only teach but also educate
MP 3 : A teacher must have ability to explain clearly
- Don’t be beating around the bush
- Give an example
- Has a trick

Have we ever imagined what will happen if there is no teacher in this world? Together with that may be all of the development we passed by are nothing. It is the importance of a teacher until a special song was made for him. Consciously or not, a teacher is very important person especially in education world. If we talk about education we will find a learning-teaching process where one of its success is depend on a teacher role, but every teacher must have different qualities in teaching. Sometimes students like a subject due to that qualities and happened just the opposite of it. Firstly students like a subject then they begin to dislike it because of the teacher ability too. There are three qualities which are at least must be had to be a good teacher, also it will create a nice communication between teacher and students.
First quality is a teacher must have knowledge of subject. A mastery of subject makes students have more amazement feeling to him since they think that the teacher who teaches them is a genius man and can help them in memorizing a lot of theories, so it will increases students’ learning motivation in the class by coming up many questions. They also thing that nothing difficulty in that subject when a teacher can give a correct answer for that questions, but before answer it, a teacher has to give a clue and instruction in order that they can solve it by themselves and let them try to find the answer with their own way. Don’t give them the correct answer directly. When students are not able to analyze it, it is time for teacher to give a trick and theory of the correct answer. Besides it, that theory will be spelled out freely and in detail by relating it to the subject and usually a teacher who has knowledge of subject avoids more out of subject explanation although sometimes a little explanation about other is need to prevent a boredom in the class. If teacher talks about other too much it will disperse students’ concentration and hey forget what the teacher explained.
The next quality is a teacher must care about the students. It doesn’t mean that teacher must accompany all of the students one by one to follow all of the theory since the evaluable time is not enough for others. Whereas this way only can occur effectively for a small class which includes maximum seven students while it can’t be effective anymore in a large class which includes more than that. We can infer that the teacher care doesn’t measure with it. More important thing than it is teacher must know every student’s ability because to be best of our knowledge that everyone has different ability in understanding a subject which can help teacher to find the best way to lose the differently among the students and makes all students can reach the subject explanation. Moreover, never make the differently as a chance to be partiality, because often a teacher gives more attention to SI ANU who can understand the subject faster than others. He is be the first one who must finish the homework and to answer every question, or a teacher always mention his name by comparing his ability with others, while a low ability students are rare given a chance to do so. If it occurs in learning-teaching process, we are not doubt that only a few students like the subject, and neither do others. Some of students prefer be passive in the class because they will think that it seems they are not exist in front of the teacher. Indeed don’t give students a punishment rapidly. Usually if a teacher always gives a punishment for student disobedience it will make student be trauma and don’t want to study at home instead they don’t want to intend the class anymore since they are afraid the teacher will be angry. Then what should a teacher do? Firstly, a teacher has to ask why the student didn’t work on his/her duty as students, what is the problem etc. To avoid the teacher giving a punishment rapidly, it needs the teacher himself awareness that teacher role is not only teach but also educate. If teacher can do this point everything that can make students feel uncomfortable will be nothing, students will always take a part and be more diligent instead.
The most important quality is a teacher must have ability to explain clearly. The first step to reach it, the lecturing is not beating around the bush. Sometimes there is a subject that is easy to understand, however since the teacher can’t explain it clearly it is be a difficult subject. So it no problem that teacher gives a little explanation but it directed to the point that will make the students unconfused. As attachment when teacher explains a subject, try to give en example about everything happened in our life. In order to create an interesting lecturing teacher has to relate it with the subject is talking about because students are more able to memorize everything around their life well. Giving an example is not enough since there is the same important thing that teacher must have a trick to start the class. An experiment have found about learning where it can balance and maximize the right and the left brain role. It was written in a book “Mind Mapping: your personal guide to exploring creativity and problem solving by Joyce Wycoff-New York, 1991). This book tells the writers that make a mind mapping is worth doing than we make an outline like we always do. That is just one of the good trick examples in teaching, while every teacher has their own trick that they thing it is an effective enough for their class. Finally, whatever their way a trick is worth need to prevent students’ confusedness.
Those three are at least qualities that the teacher must have since the success education begins with the teacher way in playing his/her role in the class. If we are be a teacher next time, just be a good teacher also a good parent for the students, but before that we should have our own qualities and try to look into everything related to be a good teacher.
